Important information
Directions
When starting out it is best to add one or two fish and wait 2 weeks as the aquarium becomes established and beneficial bacteria begin growing, unless you add products that can speed up this process. Typically, it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a tank to cycle through and become established. So always best to start slowly. Generally, the number of fish you can keep in your tank depends on the type of fish and amount of bio-load in your tank. A good recommendation is an inch of fish per gallon of tank, measuring the length of the fish from the base of the tail to the opposite end.

It's also bigger than I expected-- so if you're like me and can read dimensions but don't really get a clear picture in your mind; imagine a five gallon bucket like you get from a hardware store but even taller. Thankfully I had plenty of desk space where I wanted it so my inability to visualize the size wasn't a problem at all.
I've seen a lot of people get this for a betta, and it's plenty of gallons for one (5+ gallons seems to be the standard) it's not a good shape for one. Betta are better suited for long, shallower tanks as they need to go to the surface regularly. With some careful hardscaping and planning it could be made to work if given proper levels/areas to rest near the top, but for the price I think you'd be better off getting a standard 10 gallon tank, or even spoiling it with a 20 gallon long. ;)
I plan to use it for shrimp, and it seems like it will work really well for that. Plenty of room for scaping and plants.
I'm not using the lights or filter (or the lid at all, tbh) so I can't speak to how good those are. I've seen other reviews saying the filter wont work because it doesn't reach to the bottom or that the flow is too strong for a betta. Personally I think the best fix to both of these is to just get a sponge filter (I'm using the adjustable hygger one) but if you want to use the filer it comes with you could probably go to a hardware store and buy a longer plastic/pvc tube so the actual intake is lower towards the bottom of the tank. Seems like more work to me but would probably be petty cheap.
Not much else to say-- I have it filled and cycling and it's going fine so far. No cracks, no leaks. Only using the actual aquarium, not any of the hardware though, so really I'm just saying "it's a nice plastic cylinder", so take my review with a grain of salt :p
Very happy with this tank compared to other options. Would buy again:)

Very happy with this tank compared to other options. Would buy again:)
The light is effectively useless for anything but seeing the fish and barely at that- if you have any live plants like I do, it won't be enough to keep them happy in the least. As you can see in the first picture, I bough a different light altogether and it works for all three tanks on the table. I took the whole light unit out of the little groove it slides into in the lid and now it has an extra hole in it which I plan to put another plant of some kind into so the roots can dangle into the water.
The lid itself is a whole other issue because if you keep your tank fairly full as I do, water accumulates on the underside and EVERY time you tip it open, it will do its best to dump that water out the back of the tank. Not a deal breaker, but a lesson I learned the hard way. You can see in the second picture both how much water is there and how it could slide off and the hole in the lid left by the light.
This being said, I DO like the tank! It's a nice size -not to big nor too small- my tiger lotus is flourishing and it'll be perfect for my micro fish. I cannot stress enough how this is not a good tank for a betta, what most people think they want to put in here. While it's wonderful that you want an appropriately SIZED tank for your friend, this will be much too tall and you're better off spending the money on a 5 gallon or above in either a regular rectangular shape or a nice bowfront. The betta will appreciate not having to swim up so far to the surface. Would not recommend as a first tank for a child because any fish that will be comfortable in here won't be something you want a young one looking after.

I needed a tank with a small footprint, but with enough gallons that I could ethically keep things.
The filter that comes with it SUCKS. The filter for my 2g nano was better. Don't plan on using it. Plenty of reviews blame it for killing thier fish.
I knew from the getgo I was going to use a sponge filter due to the height of the tank, and that since I wanted it planted I needed a different light. I stuck a plant light to the underside of the hood, and it works great.
The hood doesn't sit flush, but that's fine. It keeps cats out and prevents evaporation. It definitely does dump water off the back if you open it quickly though.
The acrylic is clear for me. Though some reviews say otherwise. The column shape certainly distorts view and does make decorating really disorienting. But I mean, that is how clear cylinders work.
I knew what I was getting through reviews. At the end of the day it was an overpriced plastic tube and lid, but it was exactly the size I wanted, and my fish are very happy with it.

I read some people complain about the filter being noisy but we don’t find it noisy at all, it’s very quiet actually we don’t even hear it.
We ended up getting a small heater as room temperature water was a little cold for our Betta and he wasn’t swimming around much or eating, as soon as we put the heater it, and warmed it just a couple of degrees he was a completely different fish, so lively and playful and is doing great.
The only thing I would say is be careful when you are cleaning it to use a soft cloth as the tank is plastic and scratches easily.
I would recommend this tank and would buy it again if I needed to.
