I Bought It, It Works, It's Terrifying
OK, so I bought this thing because we have only one car and my wife was going to be using it out of town for 10 days. I have a Rad eBike but wanted something smaller that I could take into my office. This thing was under $200, and I thought "Eh, what's the worst that can happen". I watched the product video in advance, and felt I was prepared for its arrival. This was partially true, but with the update model, many things have changed. For one, no phone mount - which is fine, because you're not gonna be looking down at the handle bars. Your eyes are going to be straight glued to the street ahead of you because it's terrifying going down a city street at 18 miles per hours with just a bike helmet and your regrets. Anyway, as you unpack you find a bunch of documentation that's really just ads for other products and social media shout outs, and a few required safety tags. I found the charging port and eventually figured out the magic orientation to get the plug to plug in right (it's a 3 pin plug, in a triangle, but must be oriented properly to fit). Once charged, I took it out to a parking lot to try out. I'm used to my eBike, and the motor push off felt similar. However you're much more exposed standing on this thing than on a bike. Also, I hadn't ridden a scooter for 30 years, which might have led to some awkwardness. But I did not fall off, and persevered. You quickly learn that this scooter has 2 "features". The first is a push off feature which I highly recommend turning on - it won't let the motor engage until you're going above 2 MPH. This way you don't accidentally hit the throttle and yeet yourself into next week from a standstill. The second feature is more dubious - "Cruise Control". On the plus side, it's kinda nice to be able to take your finger off the throttle lever once you reach your desired speed and hold it for 5 seconds. On the other hand, getting to a precise speed that isn't "full throttle" is challenging to hold for 5 seconds. And once you do have your (more than likely) full throttle cruise control, it really hits you that you're hurling yourself down the road at insane speeds and the scooter will just keep going even if gravity or the real world tries to intercede to make you stop. Other pluses of this scooter include an LED light that is surprisingly bright (Combine this with my Lumos Matrix helmet and I'm pretty sure I light up the road better than my 1983 Buick Riviera did), and as advertised quick charge times. I wish the device had a bit more battery life, and I wish I could charge it off of DC through something like USB C, but these are relatively small complaints. Look - you get what you think you're gonna get for $200. It's sturdy, it seems relatively safe assuming you keep an eye on its joints and tighten as necessary, and it works. But it's terrifying, so take that into consideration. I mean, driving is terrifying too, and we all do that, so it's not an undue higher risk than you're used to. But it will take some practice to feel confident with. Solid 4 out of 5 - could be better, but would scoot again.P.S. Also, you'll notice a weird clip thing on the handle bars that is never explained until you accidentally fold the handlebars down and realize it fits into a nub on the back fender. This allows you to lock it in place and carry the scooter by the handlebar stalk. Very useful, but no mentioned. Found this by accident. Lucky find.
