Both sides are flat. One side has a landscape (artwork) and the other side is a solid color.

Yes, the top is made with 2 pieces of wood, one side has the design and the other side is the same color as the wood and is a flat surface.

Yes, the top flips over. Flat surface...the top on both sides is flat.
On one side it has the scene pictured in the descriptioin and the other side is just plain wood (matches the color of the table).

Yes,one side is black and matches the color from the sides. The top comes in two pieces but when I align, its hardly noticeable. The other side is of course the printed grass and roads.

The underside drawer works very well, can be pulled out on either side and holds lots of track, cars and much room for other stuff if that's important.

If you remove all train tracks and accessories, (perhaps to the drawer below) the table top is flat and suitable for coloring, etc.

everything can go into the drawers underneath and it flips over to a wood finish that matches the rest of the table

Yes... We have the train set up (is just a little annoying to remove everything every time he is going to play on it), but sometimes we remove everything and he plays with Lego on it or we do little crafts too.
