The axle was a pain to put in, the hole on the second leg was a bit lower then it needed to be. Gently bent the top of the hole about a quarter inch and it went in perfectly. Other then that, assembly was really easy and it seems great quality. As a bonus, this was the last one in our store and hidden on the top rack. I got this thing for $53 even tax and all, I’m truly ecstatic to have this grill. It’s almost 8 p.m and I’ve got half a chimney of charcoal going to see how well it holds heat and to see how hot it gets with that amount.

So far a great experience.

Pay to have someone set it up. The Pan the plan and the gay man come coming up short with the instructions. It's a solid piece of metal. We adore it and will be great cooking in the summer months. My friends are jealous I got a kamado grill and I'm just happy about the price

Great value

I have been looking for a Kamado style grill for a while but did not want to spend $1000  on a ceramic Kamado. I started reading reviews and researching the steel kamado options. After what I would call I detailed search, I landed on this Expert Grill. The price was amazing and now that I have it and have used it, I KNOW that I picked the correct grill !!! I have grilled right over the fire with some wood chips and I have done a low and slow Tri-Tip so far.. AMAZING results and perfect performance..  I highly recommend this Steel Kamado

Searched a long time and made this great purchase

This thing is a steal at this price. Cooked three racks or ribs and a 10lbs picnic for pulled pork.  Recommend you consider also buying a digital thermometer for this thing with Bluetooth to help you regulate the temperature.  the 17" Char-griller smoking stone will fits perfectly in this for indirect heat.  Cast Iron grill with a hook to lift included.   Very similar size and specs to the Akorn Kamado of the same size.  This is the perfect model if you would like to try a "starter kamado" without forking over 5 to 10 times the price for a ceramic model. Key learning point when slow cooking is learning to start closing the vents about 75 degrees before your desired temp. Once you get to the correct vent set up, this will hold the right temperature for hours.   Burns very little charcoal on a slow cook.  Kamado cooking keeps mosture in so I no longer have to use a pan of water/cider vinegar - which makes clean up easy.   At high heat, it sears steaks and can air fry chicken wings.   Great deal for the price.    Be sure to get a good cover or store inside, as other reviewers  have said it will rust.

Fantastic

Oh, first these other reviews. One person says the plastic under it melted- there IS no plastic layer under the egg, this person reviewed the wrong grill. Another says that the paint flaked off and that it smells like chemicals- this person put toomuch charcoal in the egg and let it overheat with the vents open too far. Another person said that the axle was too short and he had to cobble it together- well, if you orient the legs incorrectly, this will happen. Another person said the cast Iron cooking grate rusted- Well, it's cast iron, you can't burn all the oil off and expect it to withstand the elements.... 

I have used this 5 times now, and waited to test a few temp ranges and see how things are going before I wrote a review-

 It went together well, there were a few screws that were difficult to access, but I got them tight. At one point I was trying to install the lower rack 90 degrees incorrect, and it wouldn't fit, a quick reference to the picture solved this issue before I used stuff out of my garage to mount it wrong. a few of the pre-assembled parts had minor alignment issues. I was able to loosen the screws and move them around to get everything going right. 

I immediately put this to use, and decided that my first venture would be grilled salmon and roasted potatoes. even without experience, it performed perfectly. I am used to having to burn the skin off the grill with excessive temps and having a big hassle, and my chrome grill grates never last...well, when I served the Salmon and some skin stayed on (somewhat intentioinal), I just closed down the vents and figred I would deal with it later. The even 500 degree temp while we were eating, bubbled all the skin off the gate without even stripping the oil. I scraped and brushed it and it was still shiny. I knew rght then that life would be good on the deck with this. We've done Steaks with a super hot sear. Burgers. Chicken breasts.... It's been up to 650 degrees so far, and the inside is beutiful still. Not only is the paint holding up, but there is a nice coat of sweet smelling wood smoke. I have yet to need to oil the grilling grate, and that's one thing I know to take care of with this. never let that cast iron grate sit around dry. 

I have zero issues. I wich it was slightly bigger, but the even heat makes it so I can properly cook the same amount of food as I previously could on my 22" grill that didn't cook well around the edges.

I really see this as a solution, and not just a step. I would love to have a $1500-$2500 charcoal grill, but why? I can build a brick pizza oven for that amount of money.

Buy this grill. Don't let the temp run away. Keep the grate cleaned and oiled. Enjoy!

Amazing value and will last a long time with care

I was looking to replace my $97 Walmart special expert grill charcoal BBQ which was still in decent shape but showing some wear after 3 yrs of abuse.  Started looking around at different places and came across these $1500-$2000 BBQ called kamado on a popular website.  Who pays $2k for a BBQ and what is a kamado grill?  After some research on what a kamado is and does I was sold but I still wasn't gonna pay $2k.

It was the week before Memorial Day, looking forward to a new grill for the holiday.  I came across this one but of course nothing in stock locally. And shipping wouldn't arrive in time.  Looked around a bit more and came across those “Akorns” but they had terrible customer reviews, paint burning off, ash catchers melting, blah blah blah.

The Expert grill had great reviews except for a couple with assembly issues I determined were likely operator error.  I gave up on the hope of having a new grill by the holiday and placed the order for the Expert Grill Kamado.

It arrived while I was at work (a day early), unfortunately I was informed by the wife it looked like Fed Ex put the box through a blender.  To my amazement even though the box was shredded there was not one scratch on the kettle.  It took about 90 mins for assembly, a couple of screws for the legs were a little difficult but not too bad.  Overall it was a pretty straightforward assembly with decent instructions.

The grill is solid construction, sturdy and well a darn good looking grill. I've had it now for 4 days, yes using it every day.  Grilled chicken, steak, carne, sausages all done to perfection!

Today the big test with a 8 hour slow cook pork roast.  Was a little concerned about the heat regulation but 3 hrs in I've been able to maintain a steady low heat without much manipulation of the vents.

Bottom line, performance wise it does everything it says it will do at a fraction of the price of the expensive ceramic kamados.  As for durability time will tell but it appears will hold up for many years with normal maintenance.

This grill is worth every cent, save some money and spend it on your favorite cuts of meat!  No regrets here!

Stop looking-you found what you're looking for

I'm from south Texas an we bar b q just about every chance we have i needed a pit to use for baking cakes biscuits camp bread pan de campo an just for baking its great for that the price was right an the table on each side made it perfect for baking i love it.

Gotta love it

I paid 120.00 at end of season. If the manufacturer would have put a little more quality on top vent this thing would awesome. I live in Wisconsin and it gets cold and it works. I did have to add extras but if I end up buying a kamado joe I can transfer the most expensive thing to the kamado joe. First of all I put an extra seal on ashtray and top seal smoker gasket seal high temp. See pictures. I bought thermoworks smokex 4 channel thermometer. You can get it for around 160.00 I know pricey but you get a billows (75.00 value) with it and you need that for this grill. It's a game changer and it can be used in oven, propane grill and its restaurant quality. As far as the top vent I have to wrap it in foil to keep the temp low. This summer I will take apart and see if I can improve it. I also ordered the billows mounting kit. It comes with 2 brackets. The big one for the kamado joe and one for the acorn. I had to fabricate the Akron bracket to fit this grill. A grinder or dremel and you are all set. I also used high temp food grade caulk to seal top vent lava lock rtv 650 f bbq grill smoker sealer. It helped but not perfect. I think someone said the paint was peeling inside. That is not paint that's grease and smoke deposits. Just wipe them off. We have made brisket, pulled pork, ribs, pizza, turkey all very good. If you can use the kamodo joe charcoal. It's the best. I also bought the char griller 6201 akorn smokin ceramic smoking stone. You need this if you want to do slow cooks. It doesn't fit perfect so you need to make sure it's set well.

For the money not bad.

The grill is not worth it, does not hold heat like a regular kamado grill, really hard to keep a steady temperature. Wouldn’t recommend buying this grill and the the materials are low quality, it’s better to save the money and buy the good quality kamado or just a regular grill.

Not what I expected from this grill.
